Front Door Wreaths Provide a Welcoming and Gracious Entrance,
Year Round!

When we think of a wreath hanging on the front door, we tend to think of the holidays. Almost everyone has a wreath in their boxes of holiday decorations, which comes out, gets a dusting and maybe a few new additions, then returns to the closet or garage after New Years Day. These holiday wreaths are so lovely, you might well wonder why you shouldn't have a front door wreath hanging, year around. You can have one for every season, as well as special occasion wreaths for Valentines Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day and the fourth of July. Why not have a front door wreath for Halloween, Thanksgiving and family birthdays? Wreaths add such a cheery note to the front door, making visitors feel welcome before they even enter your home.

If you don't feel you're crafty enough to put one together, take a look online at wreaths which are already decorated. You can also order custom wreaths, either online or at your local florist's or crafts shop. All you need to do is hang it up!

Let's say you've ordered a Valentine's Day front door wreath, just to give the year around wreath concept a try. You'll doubtless receive lots of compliments. It becomes apparent that this might be a very easy and inexpensive way to decorate your front entry way. Whereas potted plants are subject to inclement weather and require regular maintenance, the front door wreath looks great, rain, snow or shine. You're on to something here.

While you may order other wreaths, you may also decide to try your hand at making one of your own. Seasonal wreaths are a good starting point. For a spring wreath, all you need to say Happy Spring are a few silk or dried flowers, a little ribbon or lace, with perhaps a little faux birdie from the crafts shop. All of the larger crafts shops carry wreath forms, in a variety of materials to suit the style of wreath you're making.

Some are simple wire forms, which you can fill in with greenery and then attach your chosen decorative objects all around in a design that pleases you. Other wreath forms come pre-filled with raffia or straw, a good choice for fall wreaths. Still other types are made of a porous foam, which allows you to stick sprigs of dried flowers into the form to cover. This type takes a little time to put together, but certainly results in a stunning front door wreath. When you're ready to hang a new wreath, you just slip the old one into a large plastic bag and store it away for its next appearance. With proper care and storage, these wreaths last for many years.

Making front door wreaths can be a satisfying hobby. These wreaths also make great gifts. You'll find that you'll soon be collecting cute little decorations you find at the crafts store for that next wreath project!
