Large Print

There are many people who mistake typing in capital letters for large print. There are many online who do things to irritate everyone they encounter, but to be fair, they probably have not idea what they are doing. Others know what "netiquette" is, but they simply don't care. No matter what a person's position in life might be, many tend to type differently online than they would at work or for personal correspondence. Why this is I will never know.

Those who have problems with their eye sight might want to read things online in large print. That's fine, and I totally understand that. I have no problems reading things on my computer, but I do have eye problems. When you type in all capitals online, it is considered shouting. There are some who will type this way saying that they can't see, and they have to do this to read. They don't realize they are annoying everyone else, and that typing in all capitals doesn't make much difference for them. In fact, all capitals is harder to read because the shape of each word is exactly the same,.

Instead, they should be setting their browser for large print. There is an option on most operating systems that allows you to adjust the size of the print on any web page you visit. Some pages even have this option built in when you visit them. This type of large print is very easy for them to read, but it does not affect the way anyone else reads the page. Typing in caps, on the other hand, just makes it harder to read what you are writing, and makes everyone on edge. You may find that no one wants to talk to you much. Once a person gets it in their mind that capitals mean yelling, it's hard to see it any other way.

It's also funny to me that once someone has typed this way, and then stated that they need large print, they change their ways when someone tells them that they are annoying everyone. Suddenly, they seem to be able to read regular print just fine. How were they reading the other posts anyway? Though I know there are many who do need the large print on the web pages, I think some type in all capital letters just because they are lazy with typing. They don't want to worry about the shift key, so they just hit the caps lock and type on. If this is something that you want to do, that's fine. Just don't expect much appreciation from everyone you are posting with or writing to.
